Oh God I want to watch the whole documentary!
So many memories from Moscow (the light version of San Petes, talking about this) come to my mind…
San Petersburg natives say their city is an ilusion. From the outside, you are impressed by the magnificient of the buildings erected by Peter The Great in the Lights Century. But behind those façades there is a different reality: ovr 600.000 people are inheritors of a living model impossed by the sovietic state. They live in communal appartment, known in Russian as ‘kommunalka’.
The Bolshhevik believed that it was unfair that an only man had five rooms, and they started to fill ‘gaps’ with people arriving from the countryside. There are still remainders from the aristocrat houses: the buildings are impresive, but somehow they were destroyed by the odd divisions implemented by the sovietic regime.
The state wanted to create a life style for the ‘new socialist man’ so they had to change the way of habiting the spaces. Any feature of singularity was wiped out in order to strengh the communist ideas: homogeneity and uniformity versus individualism and diversity.
