Even if I obviuosly see that countries cannot simply get rid of their debt and expect a forgiveness for the mercy of God, that we are getting deep into a dangerous zone where this can become trendy and that European Union has been challenged… I can’t help to feel sympathy for the Greeks. It might be a mixture of what I have seen and heard from my friends, or an extrapolation result of the Spanish situation taken further into what truly is a public humiliation of a country that once ruled the world.
I want to believe that this time, Greek politicians are being honest and trying to save their country. It has been exposed that centralised imposed measures do not work in Greece. They now have one single shot to prove that their own can get their economy out from that deep hole. If it works, the way we understand politics and economy will change, and I will be certainly happy about it. If it doesn’t, consequences will be terrifying.
In the meanwhile, in my pro-European and openminded approach, the least that they deserve is a chance to be heard and deploy their game. Then, we will analyse and judge as it’s needed.
I am sharing with this purpose Yanis Varoufakis’ (the finance minister of Greece) letter:
